What would you guys think about a new forum specifically for forum games like the ones we play here.
I love playing these games with you guys and I don't mean stop playing them here.
However we have a fairly limited player base and I think it would be a shame to let that hold us back. I'm sure we could rally quite a few people to play as these sorts of things are popular but there are few places that really support this kind of thing.
I would like you guys to help advertise it and such like but if you disagree then that is OK too.
The only thing holding me back from making this is the name.
I just cannot think of a good one.

I have my personal forum... We could use that for things non-squid related... I will post the link after I'm done fixing the bugs...rykerbolden.net/forum

Honestly, I created the Off-Topic board because I wanted to play forum RPGs. There were other sites I could have gone to, but I wanted to play with people I knew. If you want to move to a fully role-play forum, maybe you're looking for something like the Roleplayer's Guild. roleplayerguild.com/

I know exactly what you mean and I'm not going to stop posting here for a long time.
Also if I'm being completely honest I want to try to make this a business venture. I need a new computer to be able to play minecraft and if I can get this sufficiently popular then my dad will loan me the money for webhosting space and then I will have a couple of ads which people can easily ignore.
Also with the website you sent me the emphasis is on RP and not on the game aspect which I rather like.

A business venture you say...
Well if you're serious about that, you'll need more than a nice forum for RP. It needs a hook...
I'd be happy to offer a slight bit of assistance for free, mainly ideas and such.
Also, my dad hosts websites. Feel free to use whoever you want, but I had to make the plug.

I am serious because I like doing these things.
I probably do need a hook but I think devoting more attention to games with rules rather than RP and following unwritten rules will serve me well too.

Darn it Oidip! You made me dream!
I had a bunch of ideas for some great GM tools that could help as a hook. I am taking an Advanced C++ course next semester and may be able to program them myself with a little help.
I also have access to REAL website, but there are a few catches, one being the domain name.
I'll elaborate on all this later, but now I have to go be Moriarty in my school's production of Sherlock Holmes. While I'm gone, post on what direction you were thinking of taking the website Oidip.

I think I want to take a very game play based approach to the whole Roleplaying thing. A bit more focus on creating new ideas for game play and experimental ideas rather than the usually people who hate their lives escaping to the internet with their fursona.

So, rules and needless complexity then? Excellent!
So here was what I was thinking...
Assuming I can learn the proper coding, I could create several GM Tools.
I was thinking I could create a character creation tool. It would be highly mod-able. The GM could make a character template with each stat the characters can have and a picture of the character. This would be translated into a string of characters that could be copied and pasted into the character creator to pass the template around.
Then the players could use the character creator to make their character from the template. This could also be made into a string of characters that the GM could use to view it.
There would also be a map tool that the GM could make a map with. It would have a grid, several placeable icons, and a changeable background image. Other placeable icons could be added in as well. It would use the same string of characters saving system.
There would be other things to make it a Premium Role Playing Website. Generally just making it easier to play.
As for money, 1 time fee to access the GM tools and of course there would be ad revenue. Players could play for free, but they would only be able to edit templates the GM had made.
This is all speculative of course, I only have a vague idea of how to code this.

What's NOT to like about needlessly complicated things?

I like us squids having our own forum games... I do like the idea of the GM tools though. EDIT: And yes, I am in favor of needless complication.

I am also in favor of needless complication. The sooner these forum games are off the KS forums, the better.

I like us squids having our own games... It also means we don't end up with strange creepy people.

It would be great to have a website for forum games, just remember us squids when you make it and give us some extra* powers when you make it.
*= Over powered, Uber, Awesome, way too many, invincible, ultimate, incomparable powers.
